五弓雪窓は、近世末から明治中期にかけて活躍した歴史家。本書見返しには、細いペンで書名を羅列した書入れがある(筆写は不明)。このリストは、関西大学「五弓雪窓文庫」目録と概ね一致するため、雪窓の歿後、遺稿も含めた著書をメモしたものであることがわかる。五弓雪窓の名は、後年の史伝『渋江抽斎』にも登場する。また、抽斎の墓碑銘は雪窓の随筆『事実文編』に記載されている。雪窓没年の明治19年(1886)、鴎外は滞独中であり、いつ本資料を入手したのかは不明だが、雪窓への関心を窺わせる資料であろう。(多)
