資料の解説

中国清代の文人紀昀の手になる短編小説集。多数の怪談や奇異譚などを収める。書入れの内容などから、留学以前、すなわち、23歳頃までの書入れと推定されている。本書の書入れについては青年鴎外の読書の様相を知るよい手がかりとして、つとに前田愛によって詳しい紹介がなされている。書入れの特徴の一つとして、前田は性に関する記述が多いことを挙げている。「与豕狎(外情)Sodomie」(巻二)、「所謂交接不能Impotenz」(同)などの注記がそれに当たる。また、医学徒らしい冷静で科学的な批評が多いことも指摘している。書入れ全体を閲した場合、「請君入甕ひとを咀はゝ穴二つ」(巻三)などの語注や字注の類が随所に見られる。このほか、「馬琴妙椿尼幻術基乎此」(巻二)といった馬琴読本との内容比較についての記述も確認できる。(合)
