江戸後期の随筆家、山崎美成による伝記集。「雅俗に拘らす」という本書序文の言葉通り、硬軟取り合わせた編纂ぶりが特色である。目次末尾には、「医家」7人を弁別するため、圏点を施したと記す鴎外自筆書入れがある(日付は明治12年(1879)4月2日)。本文中の書入れは、木村兼葭堂『兼葭堂雑録』等を参照した情報補足が主である。鴎外はその後も、江戸文人の事蹟を参照する際、時折本書に拠ることがあったようである。平賀源内『風来六々部集』書入れ(鴎E24:1734、本データベースに収録)などにも、その様態がうかがえる。(多)
