資料の解説

鳥類・魚類について、その和名と漢名、またラテン語の学名などを対照した自筆ノート。扉には高知堂製の原稿用紙が、本文には東京帝室博物館の原稿用紙が用いられている。扉に記されているように、鳥類については栗田万次郎「支那禽類彙考」(『東京地学協会報告』明治18年(1885)12月-明治19年(1886)5月)、魚類については畔田併存『水族志』(田中芳男私家版,明治17年(1884)9月)からの抄出である。また魚類の部においては、上田恭輔「魚属の名に用ゆる漢字に就て」(『東亜之光』大正9年(1920)2月)との対校もなされていることから、鴎外最晩年の制作であると推定できる。こうした和漢名を対照する書入れは、『事物異名類編』(鴎A20:105)・『秇苑日渉』(鴎A90:297)・『陸氏草木鳥獣虫魚疏図解』(鴎B60:1193)などにも見られるものであり、鴎外の学問の一端がうかがわれる。(出)
