アドルフ・シュタール『文学と芸術に関する小品集』。シュタールは19世紀中頃から後半に活躍した作家、文学史家。演劇批評でも知られる。本書は作家・芸術家についての伝記スケッチ集。文字の書入れは多いが、特に第2巻のカール・インマーマンについての章は熟読の跡が見られる。鴎外は「再び劇を論じて世の評家に答ふ」で「イムメルマンは所謂理想主義を以て舞台を治めんとし空前絶後の一英雄なり」とインマーマンを高く評価している。また「演劇場裏の詩人」にもインマーマンについての議論がある。(河)
