資料の解説

表題の「茶山遺稿大和行日記」は、菅茶山が文政元年3月から5月、大和を旅したおりの日記の抄出で、本書の大部分を占める。鴎外はこれを、西備新聞社編の活字本から抄写した。『北条霞亭』その三十三で参照されている。本書にはほかに、小寺楢園《こでらならぞの》の歌集である「楢園集」、「東遊鶏肋」とも題された「蕉堂詩稿」、松岡蘆堤の遺文集である「蘆堤遺稿」、蘆堤の墓碣銘からの抄写も合綴されている。これらの資料すべての末尾に、丁巳(大正6年)4月1日から15日までの日づけが記されているので、筆写時期が特定できる。また、「大和行日記」と「楢園集」の原本については、大正6年3月13日の浜野知三郎宛書翰に「楢園集ト大和日記トハ暫時御貸置被下度候」とあることから、鴎外が浜野から借覧したことが知られる。(出)
