「麓山寺碑」は湖南長沙の嶽麓書院に現存する碑石で、玄宗期の書家、李邕《りよう》の筆になる。後識語に「明治四十一年九月十七日令侍史写一本即夜校了」とあり、『金石萃編』「唐開元二十二」に収録される巻七十八、3丁裏の「麓山寺碑」を助手が書写したもの。『金石萃編』収録の碑文の前後にある解題を、鴎外が末丁に抄写している。また全書に渡り、朱書で誤字訂正が加えられており、これも鴎外の自筆とみられる。なお、鴎外文庫には『金石萃編』(鴎E44:407)が所蔵されている。鴎外文庫には明治41年(1908)刊の『日本金石年表』(鴎G70:78)、『廣金石韻府』(鴎D40:237)がみられ、明治40年(1907)頃、鴎外が金石学に関心を持っていたことが窺える。(渋)
