各務支考《かがみしこう》が、師である松尾芭蕉以来の蕉風《しょうふう》の理論を体系的にまとめた俳論書である。多くは2冊もしくは3冊本として流通するが、この鴎外文庫本は1冊に改装されている。支考は本書を著すにあたり、儒学や仏教などの用語を多用しているが、鴎外はそれらに解釈を附したり、時には感想を書入れたりしていて、熱心に読んだことがうかがわれる。英語やドイツ語が散見することから、比較的若年時の書入れと考えられる。(出)
