資料の解説

町奉行所関係の名簿、名主とその支配町などを記載した江戸の市政名鑑である、『江戸町鑑』の抄写本である。第2丁ウに「是は寛保元酉年ノ町鑑也と表紙裏に書きあれり。」という筆写者の注記があり、原本は寛保元年(1741)の町鑑とされている。本文は鴎外の筆ではないが、巻頭には大正4年(1915)10月に書かれた鴎外自筆の識語が置かれ、これによって本書が帝国図書館蔵本からの筆写本であると知られる。また鴎外は、ともに町奉行として本書に記載されている石河土佐守政朝と嶋長門守正祥の二人が、同時に町奉行であったのが元文5年12月28日(1741年2月13日)~延享元年6月11日(1744年7月20日)の間であることを記し、本書が寛保元年(1741)版であっても不自然ではないと論じている。(出)
