Period:Early Satsumon

Date:8th century

Comment:Satsumon pottery was created under the strong influence of Haji ware in the northern Tohoku region, and spread throughout Hokkaido. This specimen is a typical example of the earliest stage, Stage a, according to Fujimoto’s chronology (1972), which covers the materials around the Lower Tokoro River Basin. The proportions are warped because it was secondarily heated.
