古代ギリシャのテーベを舞台とした矢野龍渓の政治小説。全4冊であるが、第2冊目には、合計6首の作中人物を題材に詠じた七言絶句が書き込まれている。これらの漢詩は挿絵の裏頁に書かれており、その挿絵の場面を漢詩に直したものである。6首すべてが、スパルタの専制政治を擁する奸党を打倒し、テーベの独立を果たそうとする正党の志士たちを扱っており、鴎外が作中で是とされている主要人物たちに感情移入していたことがうかがえる。漢詩の制作年代は不明であるが、明治16年(1883)頃と推定されている。(神)
