解説：アメリカ式の畜力用洋犂（ようすき）で主に畑での耕耘（鋤（すき）起こし）作業に用いた。鋳鉄製の刃板と撥土板（はつどばん）とから成る犂刃本体（犂体（りたい）という）と、木製の犂体を支える本体と牛馬をつなぐための柄から成る。イギリス式に比べて撥土板が幅広だが全長が短いため重量が軽い。このため、人や牛馬の労力は軽くてすむ反面、作業者に熟練した技術が要求された。牛馬の頭数は、開墾や硬い土壌の場合には数頭から9頭用いることもあるが、通常の圃場（畑）では1～2頭で行った。馬2頭で1日（当時は10時間）作業すると40a以上耕すことができた。
