グスタフ・ファイザー著『マルティン・ルターの生涯』。扉のメモから鴎外は1886年3月23日ミュンヘンで購入したと推定される。鴎外は人名や日付に下線を引き、歴史・宗教についての内容メモを書入れている他、「描叙英雄気象、文有生色」、「若読水滸伝」など、ファイザーの生彩あふれる人物描写の文体に触れたコメントも含まれている。鴎外はドイツ留学中に西洋史の歴史書・伝記等を多く読んでいたが、その読み方を知る上で貴重な資料である。(河)
