資料の解説

明治年間には、近世期文人・戯作者の随筆が良く読まれた。その中でも、『折たく柴の記』は人気があり、本書刊記が示す通り、たびたび改版されている。鴎外は、巻頭識語において、森家には別に『折たく柴の記』写本3巻が存していたこと、「直ちに破り棄てんも惜し」いと思い、この写本を本書と校合したことを記している。書入れは、鴎外の言葉通り、字句異同の注記がほとんどであるが、ところどころに年号の注記が墨筆でなされている。(多)
