『資治通鑑』は、北宋の歴史家・司馬光が編纂した歴史書。本書には、墨筆と朱筆、二種類の書入れがある。墨筆はドイツ語書入れを含み、事件への感想を述べているのに対し、朱筆の書入れは人名や出来事が多く、小見出しに近い性質を持つ。鴎外若年の近世後期から明治初期にかけて、本書は漢籍を学ぶ人の基本文献であった。鴎外の、本書に対する二様の態度が窺えて興味深い資料である。(多)
