Your range of 11.2 against my 16 ***is another illustration that we have something like a flood of movement amongst an archipelago of islands―at one place big waves and at another small. ／We should know more about the quake when we get records from Toronto, San Fernando etc. ／From BA report 1896 γ 183 you will see that I gave for our instruments a time error of 7.5 seconds. ／When you get the meaning of the caliper marks shown by the watch a few artificially produced calipers or shakes will indicate how near this is to correctness. ／Yours very truly, John Milne
