フリードリヒ・グレディ『ドイツ詩学』。 ドイツ詩の韻律の教科書。長短格(Trochäus)、短長格(Iambus)の解説の項にそれぞれ「平起」「仄起」とみられる書入れ(ページ端で切れている)があり、また詩の文例に長短の記号を書き入れている。 「三たび平仄に就きて」において、鴎外は欧米詩には平仄がないという池袋清風に反論して欧米詩の韻律について記号を交えて解説しているが、鴎外が典拠としたのはこの本であると思われる。こうした日本、中国、欧米の詩形式についての鴎外の関心が、石橋忍月の訳詩を巡る論争や翻訳詩集『於母影』の出版などの鴎外帰国直後の文芸活動の基盤にあったことは言うまでもない。(河)
